Alcohol abuse: can a therapist help a long-time alcoholic?

alcohol abuse treatment tailored to your needsAll too often, someone struggling with alcohol abuse doesn’t seek the help they need, not because they don’t want to quit, but because they don’t believe they can. If you have been drinking heavily for years, maybe decades, maybe even the majority of your adult life, giving up alcohol may seem like giving up food or oxygen. For many of our clients, this is true no matter how much harm alcohol is doing to you and those around you.

Many sufferers have been addicted to alcohol much longer than they have let on to others. Your wife or boss might have only started to notice the problems alcohol is causing you a few months ago. They think it should be easy to turn back the clock, but you know that they are only seeing the tip of the iceberg. At this stage you can’t even imagine what life without alcohol looks like. You don’t even know what you without alcohol looks like.

Alcohol abuse can be beaten

This is a simple fact. There are millions of people in America who have battled alcohol abuse and won. They don’t wear signs on their heads, but you probably see them everyday. On the other hand, it’s also a fact that there are millions of people who have tried and failed. Millions more have never tried at all. No-one can guarantee that you won’t be one of the ones who tried and failed, but what we can say for sure is that, if you don’t try, you won’t be one of the ones who succeeds. At the Eastside Center for Family Therapy, you can expect therapy tailored to your needs.

Individual treatment

The key to success is not looking for the right treatment for alcohol abuse, but looking for the right treatment for you. There are lots of methods out there. Some work absolutely great … for other people. It’s essential to find out why you are drinking too much and what you need to do about it. Maybe your road to recovery will involve medication, maybe it won’t. Maybe it will involve dealing with other psychological issues that are driving you to drink, maybe it won’t. Everyone had their own road into alcohol abuse and everyone has their own road out. Our success at the Eastside Center for Family comes from our dedication to treating every patient as an individual.
